Dr. Renee F. Dorn

Dr. Renee Dorn grew up in the City of Inglewood, California, graduated from Beverly Hills High School, and matriculated to Prairie View A&M University in Texas, where she is a 3rd generation Prairie View alumnae. She earned her Bachelor in Business Administration - Management (B.B.A.) and her Master in Business Administration (M.B.A.) degrees from Prairie View. In 1999, she received her Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Texas Southern University-Thurgood Marshall School of Law, and in May 2013, she received her fourth degree, a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership (Ed.D.) from Pepperdine University.


Dr. Dorn has worked in the field of education for over 20 years in different capacities. Her first job after moving back to Los Angeles from Texas was as a Director of Development for a non-profit organization which recruited students and prepared them for college. For several years, she was a part of the California Community College system as a College Liaison at El Camino College working with many vice presidents, deans, and directors to organize and schedule classes for high school students to receive concurrent enrollment credit. As a Special Projects Administrator for one of the college vice presidents, Dr. Dorn worked on some political projects, which included voter registration and an economic summit sponsored by the college and the California Black Caucus. Also, in the community college arena, Dr. Dorn was an Adjunct Professor at West Los Angeles and East Los Angeles Community Colleges teaching business classes.

In addition to the field of education, Dr. Dorn has also worked in the corporate and government sectors. While living in Florida, she was employed by General Electric Client Business Services, Inc., a Fortune 500 company, as a Tax and Fixed Assets Analyst. In the City of Inglewood, she was a Civil Service Board of Review Commissioner conducting hearings and deliberating on cases involving local city employees. She has also been involved in local politics for over 20 years working on mayoral campaigns, representing the 51st Assembly District as a Delegate for the California Democratic State Central Committee, and running for office as a school board candidate.


Outside of her regular work environment, Dr. Dorn volunteers her time working with several organizations that help students who are college-bound. For approximately eight years, she was president of the Prairie View A&M University National Alumni Association - Los Angeles Chapter and a board member of the Prairie View A&M University National Alumni Association. During Dr. Dorn’s tenure as chapter president, the alumni chapter recruited students to attend Prairie View, organized scholarship fundraisers, and supported and mentored students from Southern California. Dr. Dorn stays connected with other local alumni chapters by volunteering her time with the United Negro College Fund’s Los Angeles Inter-Alumni Council, which is composed of Los Angeles alumni chapters from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) around the country.

While working with the Prairie View Alumni, Dr. Dorn was also working on her second doctorate at Pepperdine University. Her focus was in education for organizational leadership (Ed.D.). Her research included the areas of politics, the arts, and education, more specifically, HBCUs. During her studies, she had the opportunity to visit China and study the educational system, business structure, and government of Beijing, Xi’an, and Shanghai. In addition, she was awarded the Ed.D. Organizational Leadership Faculty Scholarship for demonstrating excellence in the field of leadership and a commitment to the ideals of Pepperdine University. She also had the opportunity to present her research at three prestigious conferences: The Southern Connecticut State University 20th Annual Women’s Studies Conference in New Haven, Connecticut, The Collaborative Education Programs for the Americas (CEPA) Conference in Corpus Christi, Texas, and The Diversity IN Leadership Conference in Long Beach, California.


Since her graduation from Pepperdine University, Dr. Dorn has worked as an instructor at UCLA for their Summer Discovery Program; as a dissertation editor, strategist, and advisor; as an independent consultant/trainer for teachers and physicians with JPR Leadership Consulting; and as an Adjunct Professor teaching public administration, business, and leadership at numerous universities. Currently, Dr. Dorn is the Director of Alumni Relations at Pepperdine University for the Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP). She oversees alumni engagement for all GSEP alumni who have graduated from their five campus locations.

Dr. Dorn is a member of several organizations, including:

She continues to work with the Prairie View Alumni - Los Angeles Chapter, as well as with the alumni of her alma maters, many local HBCU alumni chapters, and several organizations and conferences in the Los Angeles area that focus on politics, diversity in leadership, and higher education.
