WHAT IS A TRUSTEE?

Foundation Trustees have a critical responsibility in helping PVAMU towards achieving its mission. As a Foundation trustee, you have the awesome opportunity to contribute your talent, expertise and dedication to a worthy cause. Serving on the board presents a unique opportunity to create a positive inflection on the University as you will remain focused on providing good stewardship of the Foundation’s mission, reputation and resources. The responsibility that  comes with providing this stewardship need not be overwhelming; when you begin your board tenure, you will start with a solid overview of what you need to know and what will be expected of you, your orientation to trusteeship should go smoothly.

WHAT WOULD MY DUTIES BE?

As a Foundation Trustee your accountability will naturally flow from your basic responsibilities, which will include:

  • Approving and supporting the mission and purpose of the Foundation.
  • Guard the fiscal integrity of the Foundation
  • Consider and approve the Foundation’s budget.
  • Monitor the resources and productivity of the Foundation.
  • Participate in fundraising, both through personal philanthropy and advocacy.
  • Ensure that annual independent audits are conducted.
  • Meet the expectations of board accountability and transparency in the conduct of board affairs.
  • Oversee and participate in periodic strategic planning and monitor progress on its outcomes.
  • Be aware of educational, research, and service programs
  • In concert with the Office of Development, engage with the Foundation’s major constituencies on a regular basis.
  • Preserve institutional independence to protect the pursuit of truth, the generation of new knowledge, and intellectual inquiry so that they remain unencumbered by direct government control or special interest.
  • Remain informed about institutional issues and the challenges confronting PVAMU.

HOW DO I APPLY?

  • Step 1: Interested Applicant should submit a Trustee Membership Application
  • Step 2: Select applicants are invited to an Information session and considered by the Governance Committee.
  • Step 3: Select applicants are invited to observe the Board-In-Action.
  • Step 4: Applicant elect to either move forward with or discontinue the application process. 
  • Step 5: After further evaluation, selected applicants are notified of their conditional acceptance.
  • Step 6: After signing a Trustee Commit Agreement, applicants are inducted as PVAMF Trustees.
