KPVU is a non-commercial, listener-supported, public radio station licensed to Prairie View A&M University, in Prairie View, Texas. The station’s call letters are KPVU and 91.3 FM is the frequency. KPVU began operating on Thanksgiving Day, 1981. KPVU operates at 31,000 watts, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. KPVU serves Prairie View, as well as a seven-county coverage area that includes Waller, Austin, Grimes, Montgomery, Washington, Fort Bend and Harris Counties.
This coverage allows KPVU the potential of being heard by nearly 800,000 listeners, as well as additional coverage online through our internet broadcasts. KPVU serves as an educational training facility for students interested in broadcasting careers. A mixture of mainstream and contemporary jazz dominates the KPVU-FM format. Our diversified format also includes gospel and blues . KPVU is an affiliate of National Public Radio (NPR). Several segments of daily programming are devoted to news, public service, community & public affairs, and sports programming.
The Prairie View A&M Foundation (PVAMF) is a public non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to securing and stewarding gifts and grants that benefit Prairie View A&M University.
